Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: Experience working with
children is required. Must be willing to care for adult patients as
well. Strong nurses are preferred as permanent staff may have less
experience. Description: Unit is a mixed unit of adult and
pediatric patients. The ratio of adults and pediatric patients may
vary. Candidates must be willing to care for both adult and
pediatric patients. Will float to care for adult patients in other
units if needed. Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within two attempts
prior to contract signing. Failing to score 80% in two attempts
will result in disqualification for 6 months. Patient ratios are
1:3-4 for pediatrics and 1:5 for adults. Common diagnoses include
surgical cases like total hip and knee replacements, small bowel
resections, hysterectomies, exploratory laparotomies, and medical
cases such as MRSA, C-diff infections, COPD, pneumonia, and COVID.
Pediatric patients commonly present with respiratory illnesses,
seizures, and dehydration. Candidates should be able to provide
stability for transfers out when needed. There are no feeding
tubes, tracheostomies, or ventilators in this setting. Charge
nurses manage a combined total of 50 inpatient beds. The unit has
Remote Monitor Techs for telemetry needs. Nurses need to be able to
read telemetry strips. Every other weekend and holiday shift
rotation are required. If there is low census, staff will rotate
standby turns. Floating to care for adult patients or in other
identified areas is required. Scrub color is navy. Unit-specific
orientation is provided based on experience.
