Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Multi Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Days Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum of 2 years ICU experience License: Valid Nursing License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Minimum 2 years ICU experience; strong skills in titrating drips; ability to read 12-lead EKGs Description: The clinician must take and pass a dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to signing the contract. If the clinician fails to score 80% in two attempts, they will be unable to work for a specified period. The unit provides care for all three acuities within one unit without floating between units. There are 10 beds in the unit with varying patient ratios based on acuity: ICU 1:2, PCU 1:4, MST 1:5-6, with a primary care ratio of 1:3 if no nurse aide is available. The unit frequently sees patients with conditions such as sepsis, COPD, respiratory arrest, and post-operative complications. Registered nurses are required to titrate drips including sedation, vasopressors, and insulin. Charge nurses manage a combined total of inpatient beds, including various acuity levels. Nurse aides are assigned 10-15 patients, and if no aide is available, registered nurses take on 3 patients while providing primary care to others. Respiratory therapy equipment, including vents and CPAP/BiPAP devices, is available, and remote monitor technicians assist with patient monitoring. Registered nurses are expected to monitor patients with bedside cardiac monitors and read EKG strips. Shifts are scheduled for 12 hours, with weekend and holiday rotations required. If census is low, staff may rotate on standby. Floating to various units for continued competency in patient care is required, with a two-hour notice provided before assignments. Current dress code allows scrubs of any color except camouflage.
